We’ve been sat overlooking the gorgeous Watergate Bay at Newquay since we started Westcountry Surf School, so we know that Cornish waters are well worth a visit. And apparently, so did these guys!
Basking Sharks Spotted in Cornwall
Basking sharks are one of the biggest fish in the ocean, but if the ‘Jaws’ theme tune just started running through your head, chill. These gentle giants feed exclusively on plankton and can often be seen basking (see where they get their name from?) close to the surface in order to scoop up their fill of their microscopic menu.
We’re not too likely to see basking sharks on your lesson unfortunately, but there are plenty of amazing animals in the area. Keep an eye out when you’re in the water or chilling post surf on one of our lush beanie bags. The view goes on forever so even if you don’t spot anything too exotic wildlife wise, you won’t be disappointed.
Summer is on the way and we have a few new workshop ideas up our sleeves, but we’ll still be offering what we do best: surf lessons you won’t forget!
See you soon!
